When did you start reenacting?
When did you become a member of Comites Feroces? I started reenacting at the same time as I joined Comites Feroces, which was in July 2024, and I participated in my first event with the group two months later; in Eggenburg in September.
I had been sewing and making costumes sporadically for about two or three years at that point, though not for reenactment purposes, but had been wanting to get into the hobby for quite a while already by then.
Why did you start reenacting? …in hopes of finding like-minded people with whom I could share my interest in history and crafts (and especially the combination thereof). Before joining Comites Feroces, I didn’t know anyone who was into that sort of thing. And thankfully it worked out well, especially considering they were the first reenactment group I seriously spoke to about joining! So I’m very happy and relieved to be a part of them.

I also feel that Comites’ reenactment philosophy aligns very well with my own wishes, plans and expectations of the hobby, thus I’m really looking forward to what we can do, together as well as individually with mutual support.
Why the early 15th century? I think many periods of the Middle Ages have their own charm, but specifically the late 14th/early 15th century has a sort of subtly refined beauty which I really love, regarding the clothing. It is just sufficiently detailed that it’s not too simple nor too over the top.
Furthermore, Europe at this time was on the verge of major social changes, for example, through emerging advances in theology and the arts. It’s truly interesting to reflect on this and perhaps find parallels to life in the 21st century.

Material culture & handicrafts

I’m very passionate about medieval material culture and handicrafts. I would love to try making everything myself one day (wherever the opportunity arises — sewing, pottery, wood- and leatherworking, and so on…). As a pharmacy student, I'm also most interested in historical medical practices and pharmacognosy (the study of biogenic drugs). And with my background in graphic design, art history is very close to my heart as well.
Who/what do you portray? Not sure yet…
Outside of the group, I would like to try my luck at depicting a former apothecary’s wife from Vienna who now runs the business as a widow operation (or with the group, a little less specific, someone knowledgable about medicine and drugs). As I personally prefer seeing fancy outfits on others rather than on myself, I’d like to keep my depiction generally more down-to-earth.

Wann hast du mit Reenactment angefangen? Wann bist du Comites Feroces beigetreten? Ich habe gleichzeitig mit meinem Beitritt zu Comites Feroces im Juli 2024 mit Reenactment begonnen.
Warum das frühe 15. Jahrhundert? Ich finde, viele Epochen des Mittelalters haben ihren eigenen Reiz, aber insbesondere das späte 14./frühe 15. Jahrhundert besticht, was die Kleidung betrifft, durch eine subtile Schönheit, die mir besonders gut gefällt. Sie ist detailliert genug, um weder zu schlicht noch zu bombastisch zu wirken.
Außerdem stand Europa zu dieser Zeit am Rande großer gesellschaftlicher Veränderungen, z.B. durch die aufkommenden Fortschritte in der Theologie und der bildenden Künste.
