Kastenbrust This quite odd-looking breastplate seems to be somewhat uniquely “german” and can be found from the modern-day Netherlands to Austria. Featuring hard edges they are quite a stark contrast to the globose rounded shapes of the Milanese style. Over time they seem to become a bit more rounded, while still retaining some acute points and angles. This very simple specimen depicted here stems from the Speculum Humanae Salvationis. “Visored” kettle hat These types of helmets become popular around the first quarter of the 15th century. Sometimes they are referred to as proto-sallets of the German style. The eyeslits allow for a better vision while still providing good coverage for the face. The one depicted here stems from Speculum Humanae Salvationis (Heidelberg)
